The lack of understanding continues....Setaside

Have you heard of the concept of setaside?? Well it's a zany system whereby farmers are paid to leave portions of their land fallow. Now I hear you ask, where is the sense in that, and your question is a veritable one. The reasoning as far as my limited understanding goes is as follows:
Farmer X has been one of a very large number of farmers growing crop A. A situation has arisen where Crop A is now in an oversupply situation, and therefore the price falls, so it is therefore deemed wise to cut back on production, and boost the flagging price of Crop A. So the farmer compalains at being told his crop A is no longer required, and the government says aww poor farmer, we'll compensate you for not growing the crop.
And to make this all 100 times worse, they have satellites zipping around in space ensuring that the farmers are not growing anything else on the land 'on the sly'. Figure that out!! because I can't. Especially when there are millions dying of starvation, and suffering famine conditions in various in areas such as central, western and eastern Africa to name but a few. I just cannot understand this greed and ignorance or unwillingness to share. Why can't the government pay these farmers to grow crops that can be sent to the areas that need food?
It's a simple simple question, shouldn't the answer be simple too? I don't understand why it isn't......

Is it me, or...........

What is it with car prices in Ireland. I need to change my car, so I did a little check on the net.
If I want to buy a 1.4L Ford Focus, in Ireland I'm looking at €19500 approx. Now here's the piece I can't understand...... The same car in the UK, not too far away, costs £8940, which equates roughly to €14900. How can this be the situation for pretty much the same car?? And here's the killer. If I decide to go to the UK and buy the car there, and bring it to Ireland, the Government will charge me pretty much anything I've saved in Vehicle registration tax for the pleasure of bringing the car into the country. Free European market my ass! ........

Understanding is difficult, obviously.......

There is so much understanding in the world, that it's difficult to believe that there could be so much that I don't understand....
In Northern Ireland, a 15 year old boy lost his fight for life this morning, having been beaten senseless, because he, (or maybe even not he, but his parents) happened to be Catholics. He left home and his parents on the night of the beating, planning to have a few hours with his friends. Now he will be placed in a wooden box, and buried in the ground, his life ended, before he had a chance to start living it. I mean, in the 21st century, how can this be happening? I do understand, that it's not all one sided, that there are Protestants being targeted and beaten also, and this is equally unacceptable.
What can be done? I don't fully understand the problem, so I'm in no position to offer solutions, but I do believe that while the well-paid politicians are choreographing on both sides of the divide, lives are being lost, and it's time to stop dancing, adn start doing. The hatred and rot that exists in Ireland today must be removed.

I don't understand

Why is it that every day I see in the news that the US and the UN and the UK and others are insistent that Iran stop proceeding with their Nuclear Energy efforts? They're not allowed have Nuclear Capability? Why? Is this suggeting that the Iranians are less reliable that the US or UN or UK in being able to manage their Nuclear capabilities? I just don't get it.

What I don't Understand is........
